Light therapy is the use of a specialised lamp which emulates a sunrise and sunset effect through dimming and brightening the room which you sleep in as you sleep and wake. This helps bring about natural sleep through gradually helping the user to doze off, instead of lying awake for hours in the dark. The lamp also enables the user to wake up without the use of an alarm clock, as it gradually relights in the morning in the style of a sunrise. Light therapy can also help the sufferers of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) through these functions.
Light therapy has been hailed by many as the solution to their sleep problems and has helped many sufferers of SAD during the winter months. We've decided to recommend the "Lumie" brand of lamps. They offer three main brands:
- Lumie Bodyclock
This product comes in varying costs and functions. The cheaper model measures 18x14x18cm, dims and brightens over a period of 30 minutes each way and also possesses a back-up alarm to ensure the user wakes up. The more expensive model is slightly larger and contains a more sophysticated display, a power backup and also a sound masker to ensure that noise pollution doesn't affect your sleep.
- Lumie Brightspark
A different style of lamp to the Bodyclock, model, the Brightspark is much taller but also compact for what it is. The light dims and brightens morning and evening for 90 minutes each way.
- Lumie Desklamp
While bulkier at 45x45x18cm, the desklamp is unique to the other two lamps through containing a dimmer control fuction. Like the others, the desklamp brightens for 90 minutes in the morning and dims for 90 minutes at night.
Review:
We recommend the pricier version of the Bodyclock due to its usability with the display panel, the additonal features and the general reliability.
